Monday Movie Miscellany - Exit Through the Gift Shop

The tagline for the flick is 'The world's first Street Art disaster movie,' and indeed it is. It is also happens to be really well done and an excellent film all-around.

Living in San Francisco's Mission District has made me appreciate street art even more, as there's an awesome something on every other block. While some would label street art as vandalism, I think it really makes a neighborhood more beautiful and provides a fun way to engage with your surroundings.

Exit Through the Gift Shop gives a 'behind-the-scenes' look into the world of street art while documenting Thierry Guetta's transformation from eccentric shop owner who films everything that happens to clingy street art groupie to hubristic street artist running a Kincadian street art studio.

Urban Curry

The Retronyms office is located in San Francisco very near to North Beach. One of the big benefits of this arrangement is that there are several delicious eating spots within walking distance. One of our favorites is Urban Curry (yelp).

Dan has a system for describing Indian restaurants based on the price of their naan. It seems pretty universal that one dollar naan restaurants are located in places like the Tenderloin. They'll usually have a selection of fairly tasty (but greasy) curries, and they'll often tell you that they are out of things that are on the menu (e.g., samosas). At the other end of the scale, three dollar naan restaurants are found in upscale neighborhoods, like the Mariana or the Financial District. These places serve "Indian Fusion", with tiny portions of (usually) delicious food. Right in the middle are the two dollar naan places like Urban Curry, and as we all know from the Goldilocks children's story, the one in the middle is "juust right".
