StudioTrack 1.5 Update Save $9.99 on StudioTrack and $4.99 on FourTrack

Big news from our friends at Sonoma WireWorks as they've just announced the release of a new version of StudioTrack, the highly acclaimed multitrack recording app for iPad, developed in partnership with Retronyms!

The new version includes:
  • GuitarTone Amps & Effects: Interpretations of essential vintage and custom amps and pedals. GuitarTone includes three free amps ('60 Slant, Custom and Tweed Blues) and three free effects (UltraPhase, Drive+ and Va-Room), with additional tones available for $9.99 per 12-pack. Amp and effect packs purchased in the GuitarTone app are activated in FourTrack and StudioTrack. GuitarJack activates $19.98 worth of GuitarTone amps and effects while connected.
  • Free High Visibility Tuner: Fast, accurate tuning.
  • GuitarJack Control Panel - Adjust the input settings and modes for Sonoma's GuitarJack high quality interface that connects a wide range of instruments, microphones, and other audio hardware to the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Select 1/4-inch line in, stereo 1/8-inch line in for mono or stereo recording, or use both inputs for simultaneous voice and instrument recording onto two tracks at once. GuitarJack's 1/8-inch stereo line/headphone output offers increased drive for headphones. GuitarJack features Lo-Z and Hi-Z modes, 60 dB of continuous level control, a 12 dB pad for 72 dB of adjustment, a 24-bit AD/DA converter, and the highest quality sound when compared to alternative accessories.
To celebrate, StudioTrack and FourTrack are half off for a limited time. Save $9.99 on StudioTrack (was $19.99) and save $4.99 on FourTrack (was $9.99).

AudioCopy/Paste Article at Evolver.fm

Just wanted to mention that there's a great writeup at Evolver.fm on the AudioCopy/Paste feature that's been taking off and the maturation of iOS devices for legitimate music production.  AudioCopy and AudioPaste are the functions that lets you move audio files between apps, and they started out as a way we could move clips between our apps like DopplerPad and FourTrack.  Now that it's available as an SDK it's in over 40 apps!

A Million Years - Q+A

Recently Retronyms was contacted by Keith Madden, founder of the New York band A Million Years. Together with Andrew Samaha, Andrew Vanette, and Nick Werber, A Million Years has been recording and performing thoughtful pop music since 2007. On June 15th they will be releasing their debut full length album Mischief Maker. While this album is Retronyms-free, Madden has already been sketching out ideas for future songs, and some of the tools he has employed in his songwriting process are DopplerPad and FourTrack! His initial email to Retronyms was chockfull of great suggestions resulting from his practical use of the apps. Among other things, we discuss those suggestions in the interview below. Madden was also gracious enough to supply us with a DopplerPad sketch for a new song. Check the end for this insightful clip of a songwriter at work.

FourTrack in Rolling Stone!

Phish frontman Trey Anastasio has mentioned previously that he really likes FourTrack and uses it a ton. This time he's giving a shout out in the latest issue of Rolling Stone! Here's exactly what he has to say in "What I'm Excited About":
I'm obsessed with this recording app on my iPhone - the Sonoma Wire Works FourTrack. It's like you have a superpowerful studio in your pocket. I can record basically anywhere. Like, I was having lunch with a friend Steve Pollak in New York recently; he brought a bunch of lyrics, and we stared writing on the spot - we were on the corner of 94th and Amsterdam, singing harmonies and bass lines at the top of our lungs into the earpiece. People eventually started gathering around us. The demo captured that whole vibe - the excitement of being out on the street. I don't think I would've even remembered the melody by the time I got home. We took it to band practice, learned the tune right off the demo, didn't change one thing. And now we're going to play the song, "Show of Life," on this summer's tour.
Gotta say, I never get tired of hearing about our products being used by such talented musicians!

Phish Frontman Uses FourTrack!

That's right, in an interview about the band's upcoming end-of-year shows, this is what Trey Anastasio told the Miami Herald:
The greatest thing that's happened to me over the past two years is the invention of the iPhone. There's an app you can get called FourTrack. It's a multitrack studio on your phone. Writing on this thing is unbelievable. Everywhere I go, 24 hours a day, I have this functioning multitrack studio with drum machines, and you sing right into it. That's all you need.
It's just a little blurb on the second page of the article, but man is it great to hear such an awesome musician say such excellent things about one of our products!

Another Chance to Show Off Your Skills and Win Cool Stuff!

IK Multimedia is holding a music-making contest called the Mobile Groove Video Contest! It's pretty similar to the contest we threw for DopplerPad, except DopplerPad is only one among several apps you get to use and there's a lot more being given away. FourTrack, Instant Drummer, MixMeister Scratch, and the GrooveMaker apps are the others you're allowed to use, and you can use one, some, or all of the apps, just not anything outside this list. You're allowed to use other audio equipment, and once you're done you upload the video to YouTube and fill out the contest submission form on the site.

Get your entry in by December 15, 2009 for your chance to win super sweet studio software, DJ tools, and other fun stuff, all of which is detailed in the official list. Unlike our DopplerPad contest, the Mobile Groove Contest is judged exclusively by YouTube viewers. There will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in the categories of Most Commented, Most Viewed, and Most Rated, along with 20 Honorable Mentions. First place gets you about $2600 worth of swag, and 2nd and 3rd round $1400, so to give you a better shot at winning you are welcome, nay encouraged, to get your friends to vote for your video.

This is another really great opportunity to show the world what an amazing musician you are, so get to it and have fun!

The 88 Releases Single Recorded Exclusively Using FourTrack!

Check it out - as far as we know, it's the first big release to be recorded exclusively on FourTrack. The band made a video showing how they made the track, and it's a great demo of the app. It really shows off FourTrack's potential, and seriously, you can't ask for better publicity. I mean, USA Today even wrote a piece about it. So check out the 88's new single "Love is the Thing" in iTunes, and FourTrack in the AppStore!
