Announcing WIST (and a Tabletop sale!)

Tabletop users may already be familiar with the WIST technology for sync-start & tempo control between two copies of the app, but we’re happy to announce that as of today, KORG — the creators of the WIST standard — have opened their SDK to all iOS developers & many new apps are already joining the WIST platform!



Along, with Tabletop, Propellerhead’s ReBirth for iPad & iPhone were among the first third-party apps to support WIST & they’re now joined by tempo rubato’s NLogSynth, finger’s BassLine & MoDrum, and of course all of KORG’s apps for both iPad & iPhone. As more apps begin to support WIST, you’ll always be able to find the current list on KORG’s “About WIST” page, which is also available from within each app.

And one more thing... To celebrate the announcement, KORG & Retronyms are placing our WIST-enabled apps on a half-price sale, so if you haven’t tried them yet, or you have some friends who you think would enjoy them, now is the perfect time to get a copy and start jamming... wirelessly!

ReBirth 1.2 Released, Adds WIST Support

The latest version of ReBirth - 1.2  - is now in the App Store!  Both the iPhone and iPad apps have been updated, and the newest feature of this release is WIST support.

ReBirth for iPad in the App Store!

That's right, ReBirth, everyone's favorite desktop synth that we helped port to iPhone last spring, is now available for iPad!  It's still the same app you know and love, with the added bonuses of sharing your music via Facebook and Twitter, not to mention the delight and ease of using ReBirth on the iPad's larger screen.  But check out this video, it does a great job of explaining everything in detail:



So if you've got an iPad and love makin' beats, be sure to pick up ReBirth!

Propellerhead's ReBirth for iPhone

As you can guess by the type of products that we develop, most of us are huge computer music fans (in fact, one of our team just finished up a north american tour with Angel Theory and Assemblage 23). So bringing ReBirth to the iPhone was a special project for us.

When ReBirth was released, it signaled the beginning of software-based music synthesis and production. Like the instruments that it virtualizes, it’s a major music milestone. Propellerhead’s ReBirth provides an amazing kit for a musician. I’ll point you to rebirthapp.com for more details. These instruments defined a genre of music. Any music fan should know about these tools.

Not only do you hear 303s and 808s in many popular songs, they are so loved that musicians actually write songs about them, like Fatboy Slim’s “Everybody Needs a 303.” Bands name themselves after them like 808 State. Outkast knows you want the 808 in their catchy song, “I like the way you move.”
